26th June 2022

The First Death! I wasn't able to write much in these past few weeks of June probably because of the stress in OG dept. I won't say I didn't have time because I actually did but then I wasn't feeling like it. So yeah, I wanted to record this one day's happenings properly. Megala! (Name changed). The moment I came to OG ward, I was practically pushed into the middle of the ocean along with Sid. Only Sid had a life jacket (ward work-experience) and I didn't. And the one patient that we had to write multiple opinions for, on a daily basis, was Megala. Now I had never written an opinion before so I didn't know much to begin with, but I did try my best. The harder part was talking to Megala. She used to have a new complaint every single day and most of the time, the PGs and the DMOs who came there said that she was just psychologically affected having been 26 yrs old, unmarried, and living with Stage 4 ovarian cancer. Every single complaint required a new opinio...

Day 3/ 2nd June 2022

So this was probably the night I'll remember for the rest of my life. It was something very trivial for most of my friends but for some reason, it meant a lot to me. I was able to witness something that will probably be seen only in textbooks these days. I didn't assist in this delivery. I didn't do anything out of the ordinary. I was just watching from the sides and was occasionally giving some injections. That's it. So let me take a quick stroll down memory lane for this day. It was around 2:30 am at night. Me, Sam and our most favourite pg of all time, Amru ma'am (name changed), were telling each other that after such a hectic night the previous day, the labour room was finally quiet and had this peaceful feel perfect for 2 hrs of sleep. Just 5 mins after we were discussing this, the nurse came running into the labour room. "Doctors ODAANEE VAANGA PATIENT KU BLEEDING PV." she said.  So, most of the time when patients complained of bleeding PV, it used ...

Day 2/ 1st June 2022

This was one of the most hectic days of my entire life. I was told OG Labour room had never seen 7 deliveries on one single night and me and Sam (name changed) had to work non-stop for this. Initially when we came, Jaya (name changed) ma'am was the DMO and Nirmala (name changed) ma'am was the PG incharge along with Anu (name changed) ma'am as 1st yr PG. There was a emergency LSCS and i had to go as one crri had to be there.  When I returned, one patient had delivered and there were 3 in labour. Little did i know that the next 6 hrs were gonna be too hard. Being the 2nd day, we only knew so much and running around connecting NST monitors and doing contraction checks were already tiring enough. I was connecting NST monitor to one patient who had been in severe pain for a really long time. And she tried to tell me something but she couldn't. I connected the monitor and was searching for a belt to connect it to and suddenly I saw that the head of the baby was already out. I...

Day 1/31st May 2022

The first day of Internship. I was telling my friend how excited and equally scared I was about this new door that is about to open the next day. And it did. I was an intern. Finally! After 4.5 long years of 50% enjoyment and 50% studying, I am finally here. No more exams to worry about. Just a smooth ride incoming. Or that's what I thought? We were divided into 3 for day shift and 2 for night shift. Sam (name changed) was my partner and she was the best partner i could've asked for. We had to stay till 2 pm and return for night shift at 8 pm.  The first day... Or rather, the first night of internship was something to remember. I met this 25-26 yr old patient named Patricia (name changed). And the nurses called her Baby Patricia because of the way she talked. She used to sound like a literal baby and she couldn't tolerate any pain even from small injections for test doses. When I talked with her while trying to give her some comfort with my words, she started talking about ...
